Inspiration Becomes A Legacy

A Legacy Has Been Born

From the Westside Barrio to Southtown Flavor

From the Westside barrio to the vibrant, historic streets of Southtown, Lisa Wong’s journey as a restaurateur spans more than 40 years. In 1981, at just 18 years old, she invested the $7,000 her parents had saved for her college education and opened Lisa’s Mexican Restaurant. ¡Qué éxito! It was an instant hit and the start of a culinary adventure that would leave a lasting mark on San Antonio.

In 1992, Lisa rescued Rosario’s from bankruptcy court, breathing new life into a neighborhood gem. As the restaurant outgrew its original cafe y cantina space, she relocated Rosario’s two blocks north to 910 S. Alamo in 1999, setting the stage for decades of unforgettable meals, laughter, and celebration.

A Bold Culinary Vision

Lisa has launched multiple restaurant concepts that have left an indelible footprint on San Antonio’s food scene, including Riverwalk favorite Acenar & the iconic GoRio River Cruises seen throughout downtown. Known for long lines, lively atmospheres, and contemporary Mexican influences, her restaurants celebrate authenticity, flavor, and fun. Rosario’s ComidaMex & Bar is her latest and grandest dream realized, blending tradition with modern flair.

Three Decades of Flavor and Memories

Bold Flavor. San Antonio Heart. Since 1992.

Rosario’s ComidaMex & Bar has grown over four decades from a small, family-inspired restaurant into a San Antonio landmark. Founded by Lisa Wong in 1992 after she revived a struggling eatery, Rosario’s quickly became known for its bold flavors, lively atmosphere, and deep Southtown roots. Through the 1990s and 2000s, it expanded its footprint, refined its menu, and evolved from a neighborhood favorite into a culinary destination that defined the city’s modern Tex-Mex scene. In 2023, Rosario’s opened its new 25,000-square-foot flagship on South St. Mary’s Street—a two-story venue with rooftop views and private dining spaces that embody the brand’s evolution. From humble beginnings to a multi-level showcase of San Antonio culture, Rosario’s stands as a story of resilience, reinvention, and enduring local pride.
